If you’re reading this, it’s a safe bet that you’re well-acquainted with Marvel Studios’ plans for its next ambitious slate of films, otherwise known as “Phase Three”. (If not, first: shame on you, and second: read this, for chrissakes.) And if you’re anything like me, you’ve probably seen the crappily-shot video taken during Kevin Feige’s address at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood back in October like a thousand times. (Seriously, how did you lose frame at 1:05, anonymous bootlegger? That was the most important bit, dammit!)
Well, some genius by the name of Divij Sonak has went and recreated the trailer using most of the pre-existing footage Marvel used in the tantalizing morsel known as the Avengers: Infinity War trailer. (Yes, I called it a “tantalizing morsel”, and yes, I’m probably wearing a drool bib.) While it’s true he’s not the first to do such a thing, his is easily the best version we’re likely to see online. (Unless Marvel is feeling generous and posts the original, but this seems unlikely.) And since he wisely applied the audio to the original video, the added impact of the El Capitan’s reaction to the trailer remains, making this that much sweeter. (Just listen to everyone lose their shit when “PART I” pops onscreen. Better than Christmas.)
That’s Avengers 3 for those of you keeping score, so a cynic might say all of this hubbub is over a fan-made re-creation for a teaser for a film that isn’t coming out for another three and a half years. Good thing none of us are cynics, right? Right.
Avengers: Infinity War Part I will decimate theaters in May of 2018.
