By Tommy Robbins. Listen to me… When the time comes, you’ve got to run and don’t look back. This is over.”

Such is the only line of dialogue uttered in the teaser trailer for Red Dead Redemption 2 and so it shall be. After a short week of teasing, the wait for the first look at Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated sequel is over. So it wouldn’t do to look a gift horse in the mouth, as they say.

Only substantial enough to wet your whistle, this first look is hardly a thirst quencher. That’s not to say there isn’t a large amount of visuals for the public to vivisect for their wild theories — because there are, and they’re gorgeous. All aboard the hype train.

Most of what we see here is an environmental showcase, which ain’t too shabby from the look of things, But there’s still plenty to glean from: For example, are those power lines following along the railroad? In the town sequences, was that snow looming in the background in sporadic patches, potentially offering insight into the time and setting of Red Dead Redemption 2?

For now there’s not much in the way of concrete facts. The scenery is incredible; the wildlife, believable. (That dog was certainly mangy enough.) One thing’s for certain — there will be plenty of big hats.

Stay tuned, but hey… let’s avoid the deep speculation. Don’t get your hopes up and potentially dive down the same rabbit hole that lead to the No Man’s Sky ‘hype vs release’ debacle. Let’s be responsible consumers. Y’know… take the path less traveled.

‘Red Dead Redemption 2’ takes aim for our damn wallets in Fall 2017.
