DARK HORSE TO PUBLISH ‘SECRET LOVES OF GEEK GIRLS’ BECAUSE HELL YES
By Molly Jane Kremer. Oh yes.
The Secret Loves of Geek Girls began as an incredible Kickstarter success story, but if you think you missed your chance to get your own copy of the star-studded compilation, there comes great news from Dark Horse Comics: the company will be publishing its own version of the book in fall of next year.
With marquee names like Margaret Atwood, Marguerite Bennett, Marjorie Liu and Mariko Tamaki as featured contributors (and the queen of Non-Compliance herself Kelly Sue DeConnick penning the foreword) The Secret Loves of Geek Girls also contains work by a huge list of stellar up-and-comers like Sam Maggs, Jen Aprahamian, Tini Howard, Irene Koh, and Katie West. Editor Hope Nicholson calls Secret Loves “stories about the loves of our lives (both real and fictional!), and our embarrassing moments as we grow and learn more about the complex worlds of love and dating, especially as they relate to our fandom obsessions.”
The book includes prose, comics, and illustrated stories: diverse forms of literature from a diverse group of women, telling stories about the many different areas of pop culture that move them, and how those intersect with their love lives and relationships. It’s a subject that’s rarely touched on in any sort of public forum, and has the same feel as secrets quietly whispered (and giggled) during comic con hotel room slumber parties.
Now all we have to do is wait.
The Secret Loves of Geek Girls will be available in comic book stores and bookstores October of 2016.
