By Jarrod Jones. Grab your favorite pint of ice cream and your jammie-jams. Kara Zor-El is here to save your day.
CBS has released its first trailer for Supergirl, and it’s a six and a half minute buffet of brightly colored, corn-fed, gosh-darn yuks. That’s right, it appears that The Flash and Arrow executive producers Greg Berlanti and Andrew Kreisberg (paired with with Ali Adler and Sarah Schecter) are adopting the effervescent, more optimistic approach that reaped such glorious rewards on DC Entertainment’s The Flash. (Which, if you’re keeping score, is a great thing.)
Joining in on all this brimming optimism is Mechad Brooks, who co-stars as a very confident, very assertive Jimmy Olsen (“It’s James,” he huffs to Kara, before he presumably ran off to hunt some Pikachu). Brooks’ Olsen appears to be the liaison between Melissa Benoist’s Supergirl and her incredibly way-too-busy-for-this-shit cousin, Kal-El. And since a certain Man of Steel won’t be popping in on the show anytime soon, it’s time for Kara to fill some very big boots. Because there are boys to date, coffee to fetch, and planes to catch.
Best bit? We just saw Kara Zor-El save a plane full of people. That means she’s already got a leg up on her neck-snappier cousin. Sign us up.
Rounding out the rest of the cast is Calista Flockhart as gossip monger (and mogul) Cat Grant, Chyler Leigh as Kara’s foster sister Alex, and David Harewood as Cyborg Superman Hank Henshaw, a man who looks to become a big pain in Supergirl’s ass.
Supergirl will premiere this fall on CBS.
