Assassin's Apprentice #3 exclusive preview.

by Jarrod Jones. Robin Hobb’s foundational Farseer Trilogy has sold a king’s ransom in copies and has thrilled readers for nigh on a generation. Now Hobb’s words have taken graphic form courtesy of Dark Horse Comics.

The Assassin’s Apprentice, the first book in Hobb’s fantasy series and now an intriguing and lushly illustrated six-issue mini-series, has been adapted to comics by Jody Houser with art and embellishments from Ryan Kelly, Jordie Bellaire, and letterer Hassan Otsmane-Elhaou. As the mid-point of our tale begins, we continue on the perilous path taken by young Fitz, a bastard boy of royal lineage who plunders breads and meats for the sport and plays with children low-born as he, just as a strange power begins to form from within his mind. His father, Chivalry, he may never know. But dogs love him. And Burrich, Chivalry’s man, keeps him safe. But Burrich sees in Fitz something that should not be. A perversion.

What Fitz lacks in hope, he has in The Wit an abundance. His ancient power is known to some. Feared by most. And soon, he just may be known to all, for good or ill. But for now, we are much like King Shrewd, looking upon this bastard boy and wondering: what will be made of him?
